a life in photosWelcome to my page, Room 148!
I am Ms. Stene and I am entering my fourth year teaching. I was born in Baudette, MN, grew up in Ely, MN, and graduated high school in Grand Rapids, MN. From 2009-2011, I attended The College of Saint Benedict and St. John's University, but ultimately graduated from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. In 2016, I accepted my first teaching job in Heron Lake, MN at Heron Lake-Okabena Elementary as a 6th grade teacher, instructing both 5th and 6th grade English Language Arts and Science. While there I also volunteered as the Spelling Bee coordinator, a Mathmasters Coach, and lead the Summer Learning Academy program. After three years in Southwest Minnesota, I decided it was time to return to my roots and make the move back to the Iron Range. April 12, 2019 I accepted a position as a 5th grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing, Minnesota. And so the packing began. My daughter, Sophie, our dog, Molly, and I moved back north throughout the summer and we are very excited to be back. my brother's wedding

my favorite things about teachingBecoming a teacher is not a choice I made lightly. It's been a life-long destiny. My interest started while teaching my younger siblings to read. Aiding in this process was similar to creating magic. I can't recall a greater feeling (other than being a mom) than seeing a child's mind absorb and adapt so quickly. I love being a part of this process and creating magic with each student. I love laughing, learning, and creating memories with my class. My favorite part about teaching is creating an educational environment that revolves around students having

hobbies/interestsOutside of school I enjoy working on school. Teaching is a passion; so I am always researching, creating, and finding new ways to improve. Beyond education, I love spending time with my daughter. Sophie is currently six and is excited to begin 1st grade. She loves listening to and playing music, reading, playing games, jumping on the trampoline, and talking!
I also love traveling. In the last seven years I've done a lot of traveling across the United States. From Arizona to Pennsylvania, Montana to New York. My favorite place was New York City. I loved the hustle and bustle of city life. My favorite days of the year are 'family game days/nights'. We enjoy playing mind challenging games such as Buzz Word, Catch Phrase, Cranium, and Ticket to Ride. We also play a traditional family card game called O'Hell. I have created a collage of a lot of my favorite things(instead of creating a long list). How many do you recognize? |
